FAQs

Who is this event for?

This is for BIWOC (Black, Indigenous, Women & Gender Expansive) entrepreneurs of color in the Bay Area who are looking for a space to get some work done in the community with others. We are hosting this free co-working day in celebration of Women’s History Month.

What do we mean by “entrepreneur”?

Calling all small business owners, creatives, makers, artists, musicians, dancers, freelancers, coaches, therapists, consultants, strategists, lawyers, personal trainers, Founders, restaurant owners, etc. We define entrepreneur broadly as anyone making a living on their own who is responsible for their own and/or others’ paychecks.

What is the event about?

The purpose of COBIZY Women is to celebrate each other and provide coworking space in a communal setting. Our goal is to break up the social isolation that many women of color and gender-expansive entrepreneurs often experience. Sometimes just having another warm body next to you is enough to know you are not alone.

Why tackle social isolation for entrepreneurs?

Social isolation is a public health issue. In the spring of 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General released a report citing that the mortality impact of loneliness is equivalent to smoking 15 cigarettes a day. This data is alarming because entrepreneurs are more likely to be isolated due to the pressures of business. Fostering social connection amongst each other as entrepreneurs, freelancers, creatives, artists, musicians, etc. is not a luxury, but a necessity that our lives depend on. So join us for this free co-working day because you deserve to be loved, recognized, and supported.

Will lunch be provided?

Yes! From 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm, we will be hosting a communal sit-down lunch catered by Ms. Cindy a certified health coach and nutritional chef that cooks delicious vegan cuisine centering on the health and well-being of BIPOC folks.

How it Works

Free co-working will be available at COBIZ between 9 am - 5 pm PST. You can arrive any time between this time block to come co-work in the community with us! Again lunch will be provided from 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm. When you arrive check in at the front desk who will already have your name down from the above registration. They will give you a free pass for the day.

What is our COVID-19 policy, how are you keeping folks safe?

We recognize that COVID is still at large, especially in the winter months.

Pre-Event COVID Testing

If you have been exposed to COVID-19, we ask that participants take an “at-home COVID test” 3 days before the gathering. Please take a picture of your negative test and bring it to our event as part of your registration. If your test shows up positive for COVID-19, we ask that you stay home and rest. If you are exhibiting any symptoms of feeling unwell, we ask that you stay home and rest in general.

Mask Policy

This is an indoor event with high ceilings and a spacious co-working space. Air circulation is good at CoBiz. Thus, wearing masks during the event is optional for participants. Keep an eye out for any changes to this policy via our event messages.

Community Communication Policy

We ask that all participants monitor their health post-event and reach out to the Just BE team at hello@justbecommunity.com to let us know if you develop COVID-19 symptoms or a positive diagnosis 3 - 5 days after the event. We will then inform the entire community of COVID-19 exposure.
