Are you new to meditation?

Meditation is a practice that dates back thousands of years in India - originating as part of Hindu, Buddhist, and various other Southeast Asian spiritual traditions. The term “meditation” refers to a variety of practices that focus on integrating the mind and body connection in order to increase calm and overall well-being. Contrary to popular belief, meditation does not necessarily mean “quieting the mind”. Instead - it guides us through various powerful non-judgmental activities of noting how we are truly doing so as to promote more self-acceptance to decrease our overall stress, and increase our capacity for creativity.

Benefits of meditation?

Meditation is a practice that many Black Women are starting to adopt in order to decrease stress and increase self-awareness. This is especially important due to research highlighting that for Black Women, anxiety is more chronic and the symptoms more intense than their White counterparts. There are many benefits to meditation, here are just a notable few:

  • Clarity of thoughts

  • Increased capacity for creativity and inspiration

  • Decreased stress and increased calm

  • Brings our focus back to ourselves and how we are truly doing

  • Heightened body awareness, allowing us to identify health issues early on
