[Somatic Coaching]

By and for Black, Indigenous, Women of Color Entrepreneurs and their families.

Transform from the inside out. Root in your body’s wisdom to invite more ease, trust, and collective power into your business, relationships, and legacy.

What is Somatic Coaching?

Somatic Coaching is a powerful, embodied approach to personal and professional transformation. It goes beyond thinking or talking—it works directly with your body’s wisdom to shift deep patterns that shape how you act, react, and show up in your life, especially under pressure.

These habits—formed by family history, culture, and systemic oppression—live in your body. Somatic Coaching helps you gently uncover and release these unconscious blocks, so you can align your actions with your values and step into your fullest potential.

Why Somatic Coaching for Women of Color Entrepreneurs?

As a BIWOC entrepreneur, you’re already doing the radical work of building economic freedom and community care. Yet, intergenerational trauma and systemic barriers often create stress habits like overwork, people-pleasing, or isolation that hold you back from sustainable success.

Somatic Coaching offers you tools to:

  • Release scarcity and competition mindsets

  • Build resilience and healthy boundaries

  • Cultivate trust, collaboration, and care

  • Take aligned action that feels grounded, even under pressure

Is Somatic Coaching Right for You?

Our coaching modality is for the BIWOC entrepreneur who:

  • Is open, curious, and ready for change

  • Has some body awareness and can identify emotions

  • Has an idea of the direction or change they want in their life, career, or business

  • Is committed to this change and ready to “walk their talk”

  • Is open or willing to face uncomfortable emotions and vulnerabilities

  • Can dedicate 2–3 hours weekly to at-home somatic practice in between sessions

Our coaching is not a fit for:

  • Anyone currently navigating big transitions in their life that impact their foundational stability (finances, relationships, health, etc)

  • People who want quick fixes and one-time remedies

  • Those in search of professional clinical mental health support (we are not licensed psychologists/psychotherapists)

FAQs

  • The goal of somatic coaching is to guide you through a somatic arc of transformation, which requires a minimum of 10 sessions. Somatics requires repetition and depth for you to receive the full benefits of the methodology. Thus, we do not offer one-off 1:1 sessions at this time.

  • Somatic Therapy often centers on trauma resolution. It’s powerful, healing work that focuses on processing and integrating past wounds with the support of a licensed therapist.

Somatic Coaching, while it may also touch on trauma, has a broader focus. It supports people in reconnecting with their bodies—cultivating aliveness, grounding, and deep relaxation in service of what they care about most. That could be a parent wanting to strengthen their connection with their children or learning to set and hold boundaries at work.

In somatic coaching, we use body-based practices and guided reflection both in sessions and as take-home exercises. As we move toward more embodied, intentional ways of being, it's common to bump into old trauma patterns—and when that happens, we work with them gently and respectfully. Often, it's these unresolved experiences that block us from embodying new possibilities.

If you're specifically seeking trauma healing, we honor that. Somatic Therapy may be a better fit, and we’re happy to recommend licensed practitioners who specialize in that work. If you're looking to build new capacities and bring your values into action through the body, somatic coaching can be a powerful path.

  • At Just BE, we practice a culturally responsive and disability-affirming somatic methodology rooted in queer Black feminist theory and embodied wisdom. Many of our practitioners are women of color who also identify as neurodivergent and live with disabilities—bringing lived experience that deepens our capacity to hold space with care, nuance, and compassion.

That said, we are not licensed therapists, and we take that distinction seriously. Somatics is a powerful methodology that we engage with integrity and a deep sense of responsibility. While our work can open profound insight and transformation, we strongly encourage all clients to have a solid mental health support system in place—including a therapist they meet with regularly to help process any emotional or somatic openings that arise.

Because every body and story is unique, we begin with an intake session to get to know your needs, intentions, and readiness for this work. If we determine that your goals are better supported by a licensed professional, we’re happy to refer you to trusted somatic therapists in our extended network.

Our commitment is to offer care that is honest, embodied, and aligned with your well-being—always.

  • That’s a great and important question. Currently, our Executive Director—who serves as the primary somatic coach—is a biracial Black and White woman who identifies as neurodivergent and comes from a low-income, working-class background. You can learn more about her here.

While we don’t yet have a full team of somatic coaches in-house, we’re actively working toward that vision. In the meantime, we’re happy to offer warm referrals to a broader network of trusted somatic practitioners who may more closely reflect your lived experience or identities.

At Just BE, we deeply honor the importance of identity alignment in healing work—and we’re committed to helping you find support that feels resonant and right for you.

  • Multiple somatic lineages inform Just BE’s somatic coaching methodology. Our primary certification is from the Strozzi Institute Somatic Coaching program based out of Petaluma, California. We identify our methodology as politicized somatics, which is deeply informed by our completion of the Politics of Trauma with Staci Haines, Brandon Sturdivant, and Erica Lyla. We also pull from the Queer, Black, Indigenous, people of color work of Generative Somatics, the Embodiment Institute, and Mass Liberation Project.

  • We are so excited that you are curious to learn more about somatics! For a comprehensive explanation of what somatics is and how it relates to social change, we recommend reading this six-page write-up on Politicized Somatics from Generative Somatics: Somatic Transformation and Social Justice.
